This map of the Austin school district is divided by public elementary, middle, and high school feeder zones rated by test scores. Click the image for a full sized version, and read the description for our data at the bottom of the page.
School rankings were based off of the 2011-2012 Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) for elementary and middle schools. The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was used for ranking the High Schools.
The test percentages from reading/English, math and science were averaged and ranked against respective schools in the Austin Independent School District. Test percentages from the 5th grade level were used to calculate the rankings for elementary schools, 7th grade for middle schools and 11th grade for high schools. Schools with equal averages were given an equal ranking.
From the school rankings a color classification scheme is used to assign the ranking to the school boundary areas in the city of Austin. The school boundaries are classified by color to show where the corresponding school ranks compared to the other schools. Green indicates a higher ranking and red indicates a lower one.
